Delivery Rates

WARNING icon
Configuring Delivery Rates is an Advanced User feature.

Khaos Control can automatically calculate postage for sales orders, by applying the delivery rate rules that have been set up in the Delivery Rates screen, see How To: Configure Courier Services and Delivery Rates. When calculating the delivery rate, Khaos Control takes into account the courier for the Sales Order and applies the relevant rule. The Information Bar at the bottom of the screen provides a description of the selected delivery rate. The description cannot be amended as it is automatically generated by Khaos Control. Delivery rates are created for either: a country, a zone or a postcode. Delivery rates are created using either weight or value. If Khaos Control cannot apply a delivery rate to a sales order, the delivery amount is set to zero.

Note: Whilst Khaos Control works with any numerical weight system that uses factors of 10, or any ratio of it (e.g. any metric system, such as grammes or kilogrammes), certain courier integrations may stipulate the unit to be used.
Once a unit of weight is chosen, it must be used consistently throughout the system (e.g. in Stock, Customer weight-related discounts, Courier Banding and Delivery Rates). Do not enter some weights in grammes and others in kilogrammes, otherwise errors will occur.

To understand the options available and how Courier Bandings and Delivery Rates work together see How To: Understand Courier Bandings and Delivery Rates options in Khaos Control.

The country, zone and postcode fields are mutually exclusive. Only one of these fields can be used for the delivery rate.

Delivery Rates Grid

  • Country: country the delivery rate is for, see [ System Data | Countries ].
  • Zone: zone the delivery rate is for. The zone is defined in [ System Data | Country Zones ].
  • Postcodes (max 500 characters) : postcode area the delivery rate is for. Either partial or full postcodes can be used, e.g. NG[1-9] or NG31[1-9] or NG31 6 or NG31 6DB, see configuring postcodes for examples.
Note: the maximum field length can be extended to 900 characters. This option is not enabled by default. Please email Development for more information..
  • Courier: courier the delivery rate is for. If this field is left empty the delivery rate is applied to all couriers, see [ System Data | Sales Order Processing | Couriers ].
  • Comp Class: enables users to set-up different rates for different types of customer (trade, retail etc.) (Optional)
  • Wgt-Low: lowest total order weight (to 4dp) the delivery rate will be applied to; used in conjunction with Wgt-High field.
  • Wgt-High: total order weight (to 4dp) less than the amount specified that the delivery rate will be apply to, e.g. if 20, the maximum weight that the rate would apply to is 19.99; used in conjunction with Wgt-Low field.
  • Value-Low: lowest total order value the delivery rate will be applied to; used in conjunction with Value-High field. Rule = Equal to or Greater than.
  • Value-High: total value of order less than the amount specified that the delivery rate will be apply to, e.g. if £20, the maximum order value that the rate would apply to is £19.99; used in conjunction with Value-Low field. Rule = Less than only.
  • Value-Gross: the value filters are based on either net or gross sales order charges. If ticked, the delivery rate selection will be based on the gross price total of the order, and when unticked the net. For example, if there are two delivery rates, one for £0-£100 and the other for £100-£200 and the Value-Gross box was ticked on both, then an order of gross total £110 would fall into the upper category. If the box was unticked in both cases then the delivery would be defined by the net total, which in this case is £93.62 therefore would fall into the lower delivery band.
Note: data can be entered into either the weight or value or both fields for each delivery rate (the weight and value fields are not mandatory).
  • Postage: postage/delivery charge for the rate that is entered against the Sales Order.
  • Priority: enables Khaos Control to manage delivery rates with overlapping weights/values; 1 being the highest priority, 999999 being the lowest. We recommend starting priority numbering at 110 and applying steps of 10 (e.g. 110, 120, 130, etc.) in order to allow for later amendment without needing to renumber the entire sequence.
  • Gross (default=ticked): refers to whether the postage value entered is gross or net (when not ticked, the postage figure is treated as net).
  • VAT? (default=ticked): whether or not the postage charged is vatable.
  • Weight Unit (default=ticked): only used if "Per KG chg" is not equal to zero. This flag denotes whether kilogrammes or grammes are used when calculating the delivery rate. If ticked, weights are measured in kilogrammes otherwise grammes are used to calculate the delivery rate.
  • Per KG chg: used when delivery rate is being calculated by weight (e.g. 12p per KG).
Note: if the "IsKG" / "Per KG chg" are being used then the weights specified (avg. weight field) in the stock screen MUST be entered in KGs.
  • Inv Priority: Allows a priority to be set against invoices with this delivery rate (Optional). If a Delivery Rate is triggered, this will update the Invoice Priority on the Sales Order to this value and override any previous Invoice Priority.
  • Cur: the currency to be used (Optional). If not specified, the system's base currency will be used.
  • Brand: only sales orders with the brand and that meet the other variables set, will use this delivery rate.

Delivery Rates Context Menu

  • Apply Value Range: allows the user to specify a value that is to be applied to all of the currently selected rows/items for the current column.
  • Clear Selection: deselects the currently selected line(s).

Information Area

The information area at the bottom of the screen describes the delivery rate currently focused on in the above grid and how it will be applied against sales orders.
