How To: Create Nodes
Table Of Contents
Introduction
Nodes are used to organise nominal accounts into a reporting structure. Creating a clear node hierarchy can help improve the layout and analysis of financial reports.
This article explains how to create nodes and sub-nodes within the Nominal Accounts screen.
Create a Node
- Open an Accounts screen (show me how).
- Open the [ Accounts | Nominal Accounts | Nominal Accounts ] tab.
- In the Nodes area, click New Item on the right-hand side of the node tree.
- Enter a name for the node.
- Repeat the process until all required nodes have been created.
Create a Sub-Node
Sub-nodes can be used to create a hierarchical structure beneath an existing node.
- Select the parent node.
- Click New Item on the right-hand side of the Nodes area.
- Enter the name of the sub-node.
- Repeat as required to build your reporting structure.
Example Structure
A typical node structure might look like:
- Sales
- Product Sales
- Service Sales
- Expenses
- Administrative Expenses
- Marketing Expenses
- Assets
- Current Assets
- Fixed Assets
This structure can then be used to group nominal accounts for reporting purposes.
Result
The new nodes will appear in the Nodes area and can be used when assigning nominal accounts to your reporting structure.
