How To: Create a Parent SCS Stock Item

Introduction

Before creating SCS (Stock Code Selector) child items, you must first create a non-stock controlled parent item.
The parent item acts as the template for all child items. Many of the settings configured on the parent item are automatically inherited by the child items when they are created, helping to maintain consistency and reduce setup time.
This article explains how to create the parent item and configure the recommended default values.

Create the Parent Stock Item

  1. Open a Stock screen. (Show me how)
  2. Press Ctrl + N or click New.
  3. Enter the required information in the General section of the Stock Detail Properties Tab:

    Stock Code

Enter the reference code for the stock item.
Note: Khaos Control automatically removes any spaces entered at the beginning or end of the Stock Code when the record is saved.

    Description

Enter a meaningful description for the stock item.

    Stock Type

Select the appropriate Level 2 Stock Type used to categorise the item.

Make the Parent Item Non-Stock Controlled

  1. Untick Stock Controlled.
  2. When the Are You Sure? confirmation message appears, click Yes.
  3. When the warning or information message appears, click Yes again to confirm.
  4. Save the stock record.
Khaos Control creates and saves the non-stock controlled parent item.

What Happens Next?

Once the parent item has been created:
  • It can be used to create SCS child items.
  • Child items inherit many of the parent's settings.
  • Individual child items can be edited where different values are required.
  • Maintaining common settings on the parent item helps keep SCS product ranges consistent.

Additional Information

Using a well-configured parent item can significantly reduce the amount of maintenance required when creating and managing SCS child items. Taking time to review default pricing, stock control and tax settings before creating child items can help avoid unnecessary changes later.
