How To: Setup Packaging Options

HHT2 is not enabled by default.
Training must be completed before using the HHT2 functionality.

When using HHT (Hand-Held Terminal) batch picking, every packaging type used during the picking process must be configured within Khaos Control. This allows the Batch Trolley Pick Report to correctly calculate packaging capacity, order volumes and trolley allocations.

Before setting up individual packaging types, you must first create a default packaging item and assign it within System Values.

Create the Default Packaging Item

Open a Stock screen (show me how).
Press Ctrl+N or click New.
Complete the following mandatory fields:

Field	Value
Stock Code	Packaging
Short Description	Packaging
Stock Type	Packaging
Average Weight	0.01

Note: The Average Weight is included in invoice weight calculations. Use a nominal value such as 0.01 or enter an accurate packaging weight if required.

Open the [ Stock | Detail | Options ] tab.

Select the Following Options

Tick:

Packaging Item
Non-Physical Item (unless you intend to stock control the packaging)

Untick:

Stock Controlled (unless packaging stock levels need to be tracked)
Publish on Web (unless packaging should be visible online)

Click Yes on any confirmation messages that appear.

Set the Default Packaging Item

Once the stock item has been created, it must be assigned as the system's default packaging item.

Open the [ System Operations | Edit System Values | Stock | Warehousing ] screen.
Locate the Default Packaging option.
Select Packaging from the list.
Click OK.
Close and reopen Khaos Control for the change to take effect.

Create Additional Packaging Types

You should create a stock item for each packaging type used by your warehouse, such as:

Small Box
Large Box
Large Jiffy Bag
Postal Tube
Padded Envelope

These packaging items allow the Batch Trolley Pick process to calculate how many orders can be grouped together based on packaging capacity rather than relying on the default packaging item.

The easiest way to create additional packaging items is to copy the Packaging stock item created earlier.

Copy the Packaging Item

Open the Packaging stock item.
Press F9, or click the drop-down arrow next to Other Actions.
Select Copy Stock Item.
Update the following fields:
- Stock Code
- Short Description
Confirm that the settings on the Options tab remain correct.
Press Ctrl+S or click Save.

Repeat this process for each packaging type you want to create.

Configure Packaging Options

After creating the packaging stock items, they must be added to the Packaging Options configuration.

These settings are used by HHT batch picking and the Batch Trolley Pick Report.

Packaging Option Fields

The [ System Data | Packaging Options ] screen contains the following fields:

Field	Description
Packaging	The packaging stock item being configured.
Courier	The courier associated with this packaging type.
Capacity	The maximum weight the packaging can hold.
Volume From	The minimum volume range for the packaging.
Volume To	The maximum volume range for the packaging.
Orders Count	The maximum number of orders that can be included in a batch using this packaging type.

Note: Volume measurements do not have fixed units within Khaos Control. Whichever unit you choose (for example centimetres, millimetres or inches) must be used consistently throughout the system.

Add Packaging Options

Open a System Data screen (show me how).
Open the [ System Data | Packaging Options ] screen.

Note: When HHT functionality is enabled, this screen includes additional fields used by the Batch Trolley Pick Report.

Press Alt+E or click Edit.
Press F3 or click Add.
In the Packaging column, press F4.
Select the required packaging item.
Click OK.
In the Courier column, press F4.
Select the courier associated with that packaging type.
Click OK.
Enter the packaging Capacity (maximum weight).
Enter the Volume From value.
Enter the Volume To value.
Enter the Orders Count value.

This value controls how many Sales Orders can be included in a single batch when using this packaging type.

Repeat the process for each packaging item you have created.
Press Ctrl+S or click Save when finished.

Additional Information

Every packaging type used within HHT batch picking should be configured in Packaging Options.
Accurate weight and volume values help improve trolley batch calculations.
The Orders Count setting helps control how many orders are grouped together during picking.
Creating packaging items as stock records provides consistency across warehouse processes.
If packaging stock itself needs to be tracked, the Stock Controlled option can be enabled on individual packaging items.
