How To: Copy Categories

Introduction
Website Categories help organise products within your website structure. If you need to create a similar category, you can copy an existing category and paste it elsewhere in the category tree.
You can choose whether to copy just the category structure or copy both the category and its associated stock items.
Important: Website Category setup and maintenance is an advanced user feature. Before making changes, speak to your website developers to ensure the changes are appropriate for your website.Configuring and managing Website Categories requires HQ User permission.
Before You Start
- Ensure you have the required HQ User permission.
- Review your existing website category structure.
- Consider whether associated stock items should also be copied.

Copying a Website Category
- Open the Web Configuration screen. For guidance, see How To: Open the Website Categories Screen.
- Load the website you want to update.
- Press Alt + E or select Edit to enter edit mode.
- Select the category you want to copy.
- Right-click the category and select Copy.
- Select the category or node where you want to create the copy.
- Right-click and select Paste.
- When prompted with "Should the associated items be copied with the node(s)?", choose one of the following:
- Yes to copy the category and all associated stock items.
- No to copy only the category structure.
- Press Ctrl + S or select Save to save your changes.
Additional Information
- Copying a category can save time when building a similar website structure.
- Including associated stock items can be useful when creating duplicate product sections.
- If you only need the category structure, choose not to copy associated items and add products manually afterwards.
- Always review copied categories before publishing website changes to ensure products appear in the correct location.
