How To: Create a Textual Warehouse

Warehouse Location Control is not enabled by default.
Training must be completed before using the warehouse functionality.

Warehouse Location Control is an Advanced User feature.
It contains complex, resource-intensive functionality and a decision to begin using it should therefore not be taken lightly.

Before you can create a warehouse, you must first set up your Stock Location Types. For guidance, see How To: Setup Stock Location Types.

Warehouses are used to control where stock is stored and picked from. Once warehouse functionality is enabled, all stock-controlled items must be assigned to at least one warehouse location.

Create a Warehouse

Open a Warehouse screen (show me how).
Press Ctrl + N or click New.
Click Yes to create a new warehouse.
Enter a code in the Code field.
Enter the warehouse name in the Description field.
Press Ctrl + S or click Save.

The warehouse is now available for location setup.

Set Up Warehouse Locations

All stock-controlled items must be allocated to warehouse locations.

You can configure locations as:

Single Stock Locations - One stock item per location.
Multi-Stock Locations - Multiple stock items stored in the same location.

Important: Warehouse location codes must be unique.

Single Stock Locations

Single stock locations are used when each warehouse location holds only one stock item.

Depending on your warehouse processes, you may wish to create different location types for each item, such as:

Picking (Primary)
Picking (Secondary)
Picking (Bulk)
No Auto-Pick

The setup process is the same for each location type.

Set Up a Picking (Primary) Location

Open the warehouse and press Alt + E or click Edit.
Press F3 or click Add to create a new location.
Enter the warehouse location code in the Code column.
Example: AA-001-A
Note: Location codes can be displayed on picking reports when configured.
Enter a description in the Description column.
Example: Aisle A, Bay One, Level A
Select the Type field and press F4.
Choose your Picking (Primary) Stock Location Type.
Move to the Stock Code (F8) column and press F8.
Select the required stock item.

Press Ctrl + S or click Save.

Set Up a Picking (Secondary) Location

Press Alt + E or click Edit.
Press F3 or click Add.
Enter the warehouse location code.
Example: AA-001-B
Enter a description.
Example: Aisle A, Bay One, Level B
Select the Type field and press F4.
Choose your Picking (Secondary) Stock Location Type.
Move to the Stock Code (F8) column and press F8.
Select the stock item.
Press Ctrl + S or click Save.

Set Up a Picking (Bulk) Location

Press Alt + E or click Edit.
Press F3 or click Add.
Enter the warehouse location code.
Example: AA-001-C
Enter a description.
Example: Aisle A, Bay One, Level C
Select the Type field and press F4.

Choose your Picking (Bulk) Stock Location Type.
Move to the Stock Code (F8) column and press F8.

Select the stock item.

Press Ctrl + S or click Save.

Set Up a No Auto-Pick Location

No Auto-Pick locations are ignored during automatic stock allocation and must be selected manually when required.

Press Alt + E or click Edit.
Press F3 or click Add.
Enter the warehouse location code.
Example: AA-001-D
Enter a description.
Example: Aisle A, Bay One, Level D
Select the Type field and press F4.
Choose your No Auto-Pick Stock Location Type.
Move to the Stock Code (F8) column and press F8.
Select the stock item.
Press Ctrl + S or click Save.

Multi-Stock Locations

Multi-stock locations allow multiple stock items to be stored in the same warehouse location.

These locations are commonly used for:

Goods-in areas
Delivery bays
Bulk storage locations
Shared picking areas

Set Up a Multi-Stock Put Away (Bulk) Location

Open the warehouse and press Alt + E or click Edit.
Press F3 or click Add to create a new location.
Enter the warehouse location code.
Example: Delivery Bay
Enter a description.
Example: Delivery Drop-Off Area
Select the Type field and press F4.
Choose your Put Away (Bulk) Stock Location Type.
Tick the Multi? checkbox in the grid or the checkbox at the bottom of the screen.
Once enabled, the Multi Stock Location tab will become available.
Open the Multi Stock Location tab.
Click Add Item and add all stock items that may be stored in this location.
Press Ctrl + S or click Save.

Additional Information

Using Other Location Types with Multi-Stock Locations

Multi-stock locations are not limited to Put Away (Bulk) locations. You can also create multi-stock versions of:

Picking (Primary)
Picking (Secondary)
Picking (Bulk)
No Auto-Pick

Simply select the appropriate Stock Location Type during setup.

Creating Multiple Multi-Stock Locations at Once

If you are creating several warehouse locations:

Highlight the required locations in the grid.
Right-click and select Apply Value Range.
Apply a tick to the Multi? column.

This allows multiple locations to be configured as multi-stock locations in a single action.

Using a consistent naming convention makes locations easier to find and helps warehouse teams work more efficiently when receiving, storing and picking stock.
