How To: Setup Meta Keywords and Descriptions for Web Categories

Introduction
Website Categories setup and maintenance is an Advanced User feature.
Meta Keywords and Meta Descriptions help provide additional information about a website category and may be used by your website for search engine optimisation (SEO) and page indexing.
Important: Please speak to your website developers before using this feature.
Prerequisite: Configuring and maintaining Web Categories requires HQ User permission.
Add Meta Data to a Website Category
- Open the Web Configuration screen.For help opening the screen, see How To: Open the Website Categories Screen.
- Select the website you want to update.
- Click Go.
- Press Alt+E or click Edit to enter edit mode.
- Expand the website category structure.
- Select the category you want to update.
- Click the Meta tab located beneath the category tree.
- Enter the required Meta Keywords into the Keywords field.
- Maximum length: 160 characters
- Enter the required Meta Description into the Description field.
- Maximum length: 160 characters
- Repeat these steps for any additional categories you wish to update.
- Press Ctrl+S or click Save when finished.
Understanding Meta Fields
Keywords
The Keywords field can be used to store words or phrases that describe the content within the category.
Examples:
- Garden furniture
- Outdoor seating
- Patio furniture
- Dining sets
Description
The Description field contains a short summary of the category.
This description may be used by your website when displaying category information and can help search engines understand the content of the page.
Example:
Browse our range of outdoor furniture, including dining sets, garden chairs and patio accessories.
Tips
- Keep descriptions clear, concise and relevant to the category.
- Avoid repeating the same keywords excessively.
- Use descriptive phrases that accurately reflect the products within the category.
- Review your website's SEO strategy with your web developers before making significant changes.

Meta Keywords and Meta Descriptions are maintained separately for each website category, allowing different categories to have their own optimised information.
