Overview

Linking stock items allows you to group related products together on a sales order. When items are linked, Khaos Control highlights them using coloured bands in the first column of the order line grid, making it easy to identify which items belong together.
Linked items are displayed as a group on:
  • Picking Notes
  • Despatch Notes
  • Sales Invoices
This can be particularly useful when products need to be picked, packed and dispatched together.
Some items are linked automatically, such as:
You can also create links manually within a sales order.
Note: Linking related stock items is not available when Sort sales order by order of entry is enabled in System Operations | Edit System Values | Options | Order Display.

Benefits of Linking Stock Items

Linking stock items helps keep related products together throughout the fulfilment process.
Benefits include:
  • Clear visual grouping within the sales order.
  • Improved picking and packing accuracy.
  • Related items remain together on Picking Notes, Despatch Notes and Sales Invoices.
  • Easier identification of products that should be fulfilled as a set.
Linked groups are identified by coloured bands in the first column of the order line grid. Different groups use alternating colours, typically yellow and light blue.
The option to link items is available when a sales order is in Edit Mode.
Right-click within the sales order and select: Actions > Relate Items > Link
  1. Create a new sales order. For guidance, see How To: Create a New Sales Order.
  2. Add the required stock items to the order.
  3. Green-select the items you want to group together.
  4. Right-click and select: Actions > Relate Items > Link
  5. The colour band in the first column will change to indicate that the selected items are now linked.
  6. Continue editing and processing the sales order as normal.

Expected Result

All selected items will be treated as a related group and displayed together throughout the fulfilment and invoicing process.

Adding More Items to an Existing Group

If you want to add additional items to an existing linked group:
  1. Green-select all items already in the group.
  2. Include the new items you want to add.
  3. Select: Actions > Relate Items > Link
The new items will be added to the existing linked group.

Creating Multiple Groups

A single sales order can contain multiple linked groups.
Each group will use alternating colour bands, allowing you to distinguish between separate groups of related products.
For example:
  • Group 1 may display with a yellow indicator.
  • Group 2 may display with a blue indicator.
  • Group 3 may return to yellow.
This makes it easy to identify which items belong together.
Resetting related items removes all links from the sales order and returns every order line to standard behaviour.
  1. Open the sales order.
  2. Load the required order.
  3. Enter Edit Mode by pressing Alt + E or clicking Edit.
  4. Right-click within the order and select: Actions > Relate Items > Reset
  5. Click Yes when prompted.
  6. Click OK on the confirmation message.
  7. The coloured indicators will be removed from the first column.
  8. Press Ctrl + S to save the changes.

Expected Result

All linked groups are removed and the sales order returns to its standard item layout.

Additional Information

  • Packs and Up/Cross Sell items can create linked groups automatically.
  • Linked items remain grouped on Picking Notes, Despatch Notes and Sales Invoices.
  • Multiple linked groups can exist on the same sales order.
  • Resetting links removes all groups from the sales order.
  • The feature is unavailable when Sort sales order by order of entry is enabled within System Values.
