What are Short-Cut Keys?

Short-cut keys allow the user to interact with Khaos Control using the keyboard, therefore reducing reliance on the mouse.

Benefits of Using Short-Cut Keys

Short-cut keys enable users to utilise the system more efficiently. Khaos Control can be navigated and functions used just by the use of keys.

Below are some of the really useful short-cut keys with examples of their use. A full listing is on How To: Use function keys and other keyboard shortcuts and some of the common short-cut keys are listed on the Khaos Control mouse mat.


Useful Short-Cut Keys

Short-Cut Key Action Example
F3 New item. Examples of using the F3 key are in a Sales or Purchase Order, or Telesales Prompt screen the stock lookup is opened allowing the user to add a new item. In the [ Customer | Detail | Communication Log ] F3 allows the user to add a new entry.
Note: the grid must be in an editable state.
F8 Print an invoice in the Sales Invoice Manager If processing a Sales Order quickly through the Sales Invoice Manager pressing F8 prints the invoice.
F9 Opens the Other Actions Menu. Using the F9 key and then pressing 5 in a customer screen, creates a sales order for that customer. In a sales order F9 and 9 will copy the sales order for the same customer.
Note: if the number of the item you require has double-digits then either:
  • Press the underlined character, normally the first character of the option.
  • Use the ^ key to move up from the bottom of the menu.
Alt+C Close the screen. Alt+C will close the top open screen.
Alt+E Edit From any editable screen, pressing Alt+E will allow the user to edit the record.
Alt+F10 Open the Context Menu In any screen with a Context Menu pressing Alt+F10 or using the Menu key (to the right of the right-side Windows key) on then navigate to the required option by using the ^ and V keys.
Ctrl+A Invert a Grid Selection If nothing is selected in a grid pressing Ctrl+A will green-select everything, if some lines are already green selected then pressing Ctrl+A will invert the selection. When booking in a Delivery Note, if all but one of the items on a Purchase Order you can select the one not being delivered, press Ctrl+A will invert the selection green-selecting all the items that are being delivered.
Ctrl+D Brings up the Extended Description popup. In a Sales Order, focus on a stock item, press the Ctrl+D key and the Extended Description popup appears.
Ctrl+I Move from a Sales Order into the Sales Invoice Manager filtering on the Sales Order. Allows the user to quickly process a sales order from creating the order, moving to the Sales Invoice Manager using Ctrl+i and using F8 to print the invoice.
Ctrl+L Close all open screens When working in Khaos Control it is easy to open several screens to work between them. To close them easily press. Ctrl+L.
Ctrl+Q Display the average. Focus in a numerical column, green select the quantity to average, press Ctrl+Q and a popup will display the average of the selected lines.
Note: if you don't green-select the average will be for the whole column.
Ctrl+T Display the total. Focus in a numerical column, green select the quantity to total, press Ctrl+T and a popup will display the total of the selected lines.

Ctrl+Del Delete an item. Deletes a stock item from a sales or purchase order.
Ctrl+ Enter Same as double clicking. If focused on a stock item in a sales order pressing Ctrl+ Enter will open up the stock screen for the item. Ctrl+ Enter is also used for closing some popup screens, for example the quick stock entry screen Ctrl+Q can be closed and the stock items added to the sales order grid by pressing Ctrl+ Enter.
Ctrl+(1...9) Move between tabs. Pressing the Ctrl key and one of the number keys move to the selected tab if available.
Ctrl+Tab Move through the open screens. If you have several screens open pressing Ctrl+Tab will switch between the different screens.
Ctrl+ Shift+X Clear selection. Removes any green selection from the grid.
Shift+Esc Focus in the Command Interface Shift+Esc sends focus to the Command Interface at the top of the Command Window so that short-cut commands can be entered. For example, to create a new sales order for a customer using soURN.new where URN is the URN of the customer. This can also be used to create a new purchase order, poURN.new where URN is the URN of the supplier. Stock screens can be opened by entering skSTOCKCODE where STOCKCODE is the stock code of the item you wish to view.
Backspace Removes the selection from a drop-down list. If you have made a selection from a drop-down list which you no longer require, focus in the field then press the Backspace key.


Universal Short-Cut Keys

Short-Cut Key Action Example
F5 Refresh screen After making changes to filters in a screen, press the F5 key to refresh the screen.
Ctrl+X Cut Highlight the text a field in Khaos Control, for example when removing or amending a stock description, then press Ctrl+X to cut (remove) the information.
Ctrl+C Copy Highlight the text a field in Khaos Control, for example when copying similar information between fields in the Customer Address screen, then press Ctrl+C to add the information onto the clipboard.
Ctrl+V Paste Used in conjunction with Ctrl+X and Ctrl+C to paste information held on the clipboard into the selected field.
Ctrl+S Save After creating or updating a Price List press Ctrl+S to save it.
Ctrl+F Find and green-select Pressing Ctrl+F allows the user to enter the criteria to search for in the Find popup. The system will move to the first entry found to match the search term and will also green select all occurrences of the search term.
Ctrl+ Shift+N Find next After using Ctrl+F, Shift+Ctrl+N enables the user to find further instances of the criteria the search was for which will already be green-selected.
Ctrl+ Shift+S Search Search for instances of the criteria in the whole grid and green-selects them.
