Introduction

Assigning a Sales nominal to a Level 2 Stock Type allows you to report on sales for specific product categories separately within your accounts.
For example, you may want to report on the sales of cycle tyres, clothing, accessories or other stock categories independently.
There are two stages to this process:
  1. Create the Sales nominal account.
  2. Map the Sales nominal to the Level 2 Stock Type.

Important Notes

  • Nominal codes must be unique.
  • If you attempt to save a nominal code that already exists, Khaos Control will display a warning.
  • In older systems that contain duplicate nominal codes, saving changes after an upgrade may generate a warning and prevent the record from being saved until the duplicate code is corrected.
  • If Post header totals only (Sales) is enabled in [ System Values | Accounts | General | General ], manufacturer, stock type and stock item Sales nominal mappings cannot be used.

Step 1: Create the Sales Nominal

  1. Open an Accounts screen (show me how).
  2. Open the [ Accounts | Nominal Accounts | Nominal Accounts ] tab.
  3. Enter Edit Mode by pressing Alt + E or clicking Edit.
  4. Press F3 or click New to create a new nominal account.
  5. Complete the following fields:
    FieldValue
    CodeEnter the required nominal code.
    DescriptionEnter a suitable description, for example Cycle Tyres.
    System TypeSales
    Account TypeStock Type
  6. Press Ctrl + S or click Save.
The Sales nominal account is now available for use.

Step 2: Assign the Sales Nominal to a Level 2 Stock Type

  1. Open a System Data screen (show me how).
  2. Open Level 2: Types.
  3. Enter Edit Mode by pressing Alt + E or clicking Edit.
  4. Locate the Level 2 Stock Type you want to update.
  5. In the Sales Nominal field, select the nominal account you created.
    For example, Cycle Tyres.
  6. Press Ctrl + S or click Save.
The selected Level 2 Stock Type will now use the Sales nominal when sales transactions are posted.

Assign the Same Sales Nominal to Multiple Stock Types

If several Level 2 Stock Types should post to the same Sales nominal:
  1. Highlight the required stock types using green selection.
  2. Select an empty cell within the Sales Nominal column.
  3. Right-click and choose Apply Value Range.
  4. Select the required Sales nominal.
  5. Save your changes.
This allows multiple stock types to share the same Sales nominal without updating each record individually.

Result

Sales for the selected Level 2 Stock Type will now be posted against the chosen Sales nominal account, making it easier to analyse sales performance by product category.

Additional Information

The Sales nominal hierarchy determines which nominal account is ultimately used when a sale is posted. Level 2 Stock Type mappings are one level within that hierarchy and may be overridden by more specific mappings depending on your configuration.
