Note: there will be additional costs involved if this option is enabled.

Introduction

Khaos Control allows you to link a sales nominal account to a Brand. When a Brand is applied to a Sales Order and the order is invoiced, the resulting sales postings are made to the linked nominal account according to the Nominal Account Hierarchy.
Within the hierarchy, Brand sits at the third level and can be used to separate sales by brand on your Profit & Loss reports.
This can be particularly useful when:
  • Reporting on sales performance by brand.
  • Separating revenue streams within the accounts.
  • Ensuring specific payment methods are used for particular brands.
  • Reconciling brand-specific sales against dedicated bank accounts.

Before You Begin

You will need:
  • A sales nominal account for each brand you want to report on.
  • The appropriate Brands already created, or permission to create them in System Data.

Step 1: Create the Brand Sales Nominals

Create a dedicated sales nominal account for each brand you want to report on separately.

Steps

  1. Open the Accounts screen (show me how).
  2. Press Alt + E or click Edit to enter edit mode.
  3. Create a new nominal account and enter the following information:
    • Code: Enter the nominal code you want to use.
    • Description: Enter the brand name.
    • System Type: Select Sales.
    • Account Type: Select Brand.
  4. To select the System Type and Account Type:
    • Place the cursor in the field.
    • Press F4 to open the lookup window.
    • Choose the required value.
  5. Repeat the process for each additional brand.
  6. Press Ctrl + S or click Save.
Note: If a suitable brand sales nominal already exists, you can update the description to reflect the brand name rather than creating a new nominal.

Step 2: Map the Sales Nominal to a Brand

Once the nominal accounts have been created, they must be linked to the appropriate Brand.

Steps

  1. Open the System Data screen (show me how).
  2. Open:
    Sales Order Processing | Branding
  3. Press Alt + E or click Edit to enter edit mode.
  4. Create a new Brand or select an existing Brand.
  5. Locate the Sales Nominal column.
  6. Press F4 to open the nominal account lookup.
  7. Select the appropriate brand sales nominal.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Repeat for any additional Brands.
  10. Press Ctrl + S or click Save.

How Brand Nominal Posting Works

Once configured:
  1. A Brand is applied to a Sales Order.
  2. The Sales Order is invoiced.
  3. Khaos Control follows the Nominal Account Hierarchy.
  4. Sales values are posted to the Brand's linked sales nominal account.
  5. Sales can then be reported separately within Profit & Loss reports and nominal account reporting.

Example

BrandSales Nominal
Brand A4000 - Brand A Sales
Brand B4010 - Brand B Sales
Brand C4020 - Brand C Sales

When an invoice is raised for a Sales Order stamped with Brand B, the sales value is posted to 4010 - Brand B Sales rather than a general sales nominal.

Tips

  • Use consistent naming conventions for brand sales nominals.
  • Create a dedicated nominal for each brand you want to report on separately.
  • Review your Profit & Loss report periodically to ensure sales are posting as expected.
  • Test the setup using a sample order before rolling it out across all brands.
