Delivery Rates
Introduction
Configuring Delivery Rates is an Advanced User feature.
Delivery Rates allow Khaos Control to automatically calculate postage and delivery charges for sales orders. The system checks the courier selected on the sales order and applies the most appropriate delivery rate based on the rules configured in the Delivery Rates screen.
Delivery rates can be configured using:
- Country
- Zone
- Postcode
They can also be based on:
- Order weight
- Order value
- A combination of both
If Khaos Control cannot find a matching delivery rate, the delivery charge on the sales order will be set to £0.00.

Important Notes
Weight Units
Khaos Control supports any weight system that uses factors of 10, such as grammes or kilogrammes. However, some courier integrations may require a specific unit of measure.
Once you choose a unit of weight, it must be used consistently throughout the system, including:
Important: Do not mix grams and kilogrammes within your data. Entering some weights in grams and others in kilogrammes will lead to incorrect calculations.
Country, Zone and Postcode Rules
The Country, Zone and Postcodes fields are mutually exclusive.
Only one of these fields can be used on a delivery rate record.
Delivery Rates Grid
The Delivery Rates grid contains the following fields.
Country
The country that the delivery rate applies to.
Countries are maintained in [ System Data | Countries ].
Zone
The country zone that the delivery rate applies to.
Zones are maintained in [ System Data | Country Zones ].
Postcodes
The postcode area that the delivery rate applies to.
You can enter full or partial postcodes, for example:
- NG[1-9]
- NG31[1-9]
- NG31 6
- NG31 6DB

Note: The default maximum length for this field is 500 characters. This can be increased to 900 characters if required. Contact Khaos Control Development for further information.
Courier
The courier that the delivery rate applies to.
If left blank, the delivery rate can be used by all couriers.
Courier records are maintained in [ System Data | Sales Order Processing | Couriers ].
Comp Class
Allows different delivery rates to be applied to different customer types, such as:
- Trade
- Retail
- Wholesale
This field is optional.
Wgt-Low
The minimum total order weight that the delivery rate applies to.
Used together with Wgt-High.
Supports values up to 4 decimal places.
Wgt-High
The maximum order weight that the delivery rate applies to.
The rate applies to weights less than the value entered.
For example:
- Wgt-Low = 10
- Wgt-High = 20
The delivery rate applies to orders between 10.00 and 19.9999.
Value-Low
The minimum order value that the delivery rate applies to.
Rule: Equal to or greater than.
Used together with Value-High.
Value-High
The maximum order value that the delivery rate applies to.
Rule: Less than only.
For example:
- Value-Low = £0
- Value-High = £20
The delivery rate applies to orders up to £19.99.
Value-Gross
Controls whether value-based delivery calculations use:
- Gross order value (ticked)
- Net order value (unticked)
Example
If two delivery bands exist:
| Range | Delivery Band |
|---|---|
| £0 to £100 | Band 1 |
| £100 to £200 | Band 2 |
An order with:
- Gross value = £110
- Net value = £93.62
Will fall into:
- Band 2 when Value-Gross is ticked
- Band 1 when Value-Gross is unticked
Note: Weight-based fields and value-based fields are optional. A delivery rate can be based on weight, value or both.
Postage
The delivery charge that will be applied to the sales order when the rate is matched.
Priority
Controls which delivery rate is used when multiple rates could apply.
- 1 = Highest priority
- 999999 = Lowest priority
Recommended Setup
Use increments of 10 when setting priorities, for example:
- 110
- 120
- 130
- 140
This makes it easier to insert new priorities later without renumbering existing rates.
Gross
Determines whether the value entered in Postage is treated as:
- Gross (ticked)
- Net (unticked)
Default = Ticked.
VAT?
Determines whether VAT is charged on the postage amount.
Default = Ticked.
Weight Unit
Only used when Per KG chg contains a value.
Determines the weight unit used when calculating delivery charges.
- Ticked = Kilogrammes
- Unticked = Grammes
Default = Ticked.
Per KG chg
Used when delivery costs are calculated using the order weight.
For example:
- £0.12 per KG
Important: If Weight Unit and Per KG chg are being used, stock average weights must be entered in kilogrammes.
Inv Priority
Allows an Invoice Priority to be applied automatically when the delivery rate is triggered.
If a matching delivery rate is found, the Invoice Priority on the sales order is updated and any previously assigned priority is overridden.
This field is optional.
Cur
The currency used by the delivery rate.
If left blank, the system's base currency is used.
This field is optional.
Brand
Restricts the delivery rate to sales orders for a specific brand.
The sales order must match both the selected brand and any other delivery rate criteria before the rate will be applied.
Delivery Rates Context Menu
Apply Value Range
Use Apply Value Range to apply the same value to all selected records within the active column.
Clear Selection
Removes the selection from the currently highlighted row or rows.
Information Area
The Information Area at the bottom of the screen displays a description of the currently selected delivery rate.
This description is generated automatically by Khaos Control and explains how the selected rate will be applied to sales orders.
The information displayed is read-only and cannot be edited.
Additional Information
Well-configured delivery rates can help automate shipping charges, reduce manual intervention and ensure customers are charged the correct delivery cost based on:
- Destination
- Courier
- Customer type
- Order value
- Order weight
- Brand
