How To: Setup Packaging Waste

Khaos Control allows you to record packaging waste against individual stock items. This information can then be exported for packaging and waste reporting requirements, helping businesses meet environmental reporting obligations.
Packaging waste is recorded alongside the stock item's weight in the [ Stock | Detail | Properties ] tab.
Common packaging types include:
  • Cardboard / Paper
  • Recycled Plastic
  • Non-Recycled Plastic
  • Fabric
Note: Packaging weights are stored in grams and can be entered to two decimal places.

Before You Start

There are two stages to configuring packaging waste:
  1. Create the packaging waste types in [ System Data | Packaging Waste ].
  2. Assign the relevant packaging waste types and weights to your stock items.

Create Packaging Waste Types

Before packaging waste can be recorded against stock items, the waste categories must be created in System Data.
  1. Open a System Data screen (show me how).
  2. Open [ System Data | Packaging Waste ].
  3. Press Alt+E or click the Edit button to enter edit mode.
  4. Press F3 or click the Add button to create a new packaging waste type.
  5. Enter a description for the packaging waste.
    Examples:
    • Cardboard / Paper
    • Recycled Plastic
    • Non-Recycled Plastic
    • Fabric
  6. Repeat as required to create additional packaging waste types.
  7. Press Ctrl+S or click Save to save your changes.

Add Packaging Waste to a Stock Item

Once your packaging waste types have been created, they can be assigned to individual stock items.
  1. Open a Stock screen (show me how).
  2. Open the stock item you want to update.
  3. Press Alt+E or click the Edit button to enter edit mode.
  4. Go to the Packaging Waste section on the [ Properties ] tab.
  5. Add the required packaging waste entries:
    1. Click the Add button.
    2. In the Description field, press F4 and select the packaging waste type.
    3. Enter the packaging weight in the Weight column.
    4. Repeat for any additional packaging components.
  6. Press Ctrl+S or click Save to save the stock item.

Example

A stock item may contain multiple packaging materials:

Each packaging component is recorded separately, allowing accurate reporting of packaging materials and weights.

Additional Information

  • Packaging weights are entered and stored in grams.
  • Weights can be recorded to two decimal places.
  • Multiple packaging waste types can be recorded against a single stock item.
  • Packaging waste data can be exported from Khaos Control for environmental and packaging compliance reporting.

Tips

  • Create standard packaging waste categories before updating stock items.
  • Use consistent descriptions to make reporting easier.
  • Review packaging weights periodically to ensure reporting remains accurate if packaging materials change.
