How To: Make Grid Columns Read-Only
Table Of Contents
Grid profiles allow you to control how users interact with data within Khaos Control. If there are columns that should be visible but not editable, you can configure them as read-only for either an individual user or an entire user profile.
This can help protect important information from accidental changes while still allowing users to view the data.
Make a Column Read-Only
- Open the screen containing the grid you want to configure.
- Open the Grid Menu.
- Select Configure Grid.
- In the Edit Profile for drop-down list, choose who the setting should apply to:
- The current user.
- A specific user profile.
- In the Grid Area, click the column you want to make read-only.
Note: Columns must be configured individually. It is not possible to make multiple columns read-only in a single action.
- Tick the Make Read-Only checkbox.
- Click OK to save the grid profile and close the configuration window.
The selected column can now be viewed but cannot be edited by the chosen user or profile.
Reset Grid Configuration
If you need to remove the read-only setting or restore the grid layout:
- Click Reset to Profile to return to the saved profile settings.
- Click Reset to Default to restore the standard Khaos Control grid configuration.
When to Use Read-Only Columns
Read-only columns can be useful when:
- Key information should not be edited by certain users.
- Data is maintained by a specific department or team.
- You want to prevent accidental changes to critical values.
- Users only need view access to selected fields.
Additional Information
- Grid settings can be configured for individual users or user profiles.
- Read-only settings only affect the selected column and configured profile.
- Users can still sort, filter and view read-only columns unless other permissions restrict access.
- Grid profiles can be adjusted at any time if requirements change.
