System Data Courier Banding

Introduction
Courier Banding is an Advanced User feature.
Courier Banding allows Khaos Control to automatically assign the most appropriate courier to a sales order based on criteria such as weight, value, postcode, customer type and product characteristics.
When a sales order is created, Khaos Control evaluates the configured banding rules and selects the courier that best matches the order.
For Courier Banding to work correctly, each stock item must have a weight entered in the [ Stock | Detail | Properties ] tab.
Important Notes
- If the Re-evaluate Courier for Invoice option is enabled on the [ System Data | Couriers ] screen, the courier originally selected on the sales order may be overridden by Courier Banding rules when the order is processed.
- The courier used when shipping can be manually amended during the Shipping stage in Sales Invoice Manager.

Courier Banding Grid
Banding ID
A unique identifier used to group and identify similar courier banding configurations.
Set Courier
The courier that will be assigned when the banding criteria are met.
Couriers are maintained in [ System Data | Sales Order Processing | Couriers ].
Press F4 to select from the available courier list.
Set Invoice Priority
Allows an Invoice Priority to be automatically assigned when the courier banding is triggered.
Conditions
The following fields determine when a courier banding will apply.
Courier Group
Defines the type of courier, such as:
- Standard
- Urgent
- Pallet
Courier Groups are maintained in [ System Data | Courier Group ].
Weight Low
The minimum total order weight required for the banding to apply.
Weight High
The maximum total order weight allowed for the banding to apply.
Weight Unit Guidance
Khaos Control supports any numerical weight system that uses factors of 10, including:
- Grams
- Kilogrammes
Some courier integrations may require a specific unit.
Important: Once a unit of measure has been chosen, it must be used consistently throughout Khaos Control, including Stock, Customer Weight Discounts, Courier Banding and Delivery Rates. Do not mix grams and kilogrammes, as this will cause incorrect calculations.
Volume Low
The minimum total order volume required for the banding to apply.
The figure is calculated from the combined volume of all stock items on the order.
Default value: 0
Volume High
The maximum total order volume allowed for the banding to apply.
Default value: 0
Note: Item volume information can be viewed in the Dimensions / Other section of the [ Stock | Detail | Properties ] screen.
Value Low
The minimum order value required for the banding to apply.
Value High
The maximum order value allowed for the banding to apply.
Value Excl Disc
When ticked, order discounts are excluded when determining whether the banding applies.
Note: The value excluding discounts is calculated by adding the discount value back onto the order total. This may not always match the value of an identical order created without discounts.
Default value: Unticked
Value Gross
Determines whether Value Low and Value High are calculated using:
- Gross order values (ticked)
- Net order values (unticked)
Default value: Ticked
Zone
Restricts the banding to orders delivered within a specific zone.
Zones are maintained in [ System Data | Country Zones ].
Company Class
Restricts the banding to customers belonging to a specific company class.
Postcodes
Restricts the banding to specific postcode areas.
Both full and partial postcode matching are supported.

Note: The default maximum field length is 500 characters. This can be increased to 900 characters if required. Contact Development for further information.
Brand
Restricts the banding to sales orders associated with a specific brand.
The order must match both the selected brand and all other configured criteria.
Priority
Determines which courier banding is selected when multiple bandings could apply to the same order.
- 1 = Highest priority
- 999999 = Lowest priority
When multiple bandings meet the criteria, Khaos Control selects the matching banding with the highest priority.
Recommended Setup
Use increments of 10 when assigning priorities, for example:
- 110
- 120
- 130
- 140
This makes future amendments easier without renumbering existing records.
Address Contains
Allows a courier to be assigned when a value entered in any delivery address field matches the text specified here.
This is commonly used for assigning specialist couriers to specific destinations.

Check SKU
When ticked, courier selection can be based on the presence of specific stock codes (SKUs) on the sales order.
The required SKUs and quantities are defined using the Edit SKU Criteria option on the Context Menu.
Note: If a SKU has a Qty From value of 0, it does not need to appear on the order. To require a SKU to be present, set Qty From to 1 or greater. Where multiple SKUs are configured, all SKUs with a Qty From greater than 0 must be present for the banding to apply.
Default value: Unticked
Check Stock Type
When ticked, courier selection can be based on one or more stock types appearing on the sales order.
Criteria are defined using the Edit Stock Type Criteria option on the Context Menu.
Default value: Unticked
Check Stock UDAs
When ticked, courier selection can be based on User Defined Attributes (UDAs) assigned to stock items.
Criteria are defined using the Edit UDA Criteria option on the Context Menu.
Note: Only Yes/No UDAs can be used. The UDA must also have the Shipping Criteria option enabled within the UDA setup.
Default value: Unticked

Edit SKU Criteria
Defines the stock codes and quantities that must exist on the sales order when Check SKU is enabled.
Edit Stock Type Criteria
Defines the stock types and quantities that must exist on the sales order when Check Stock Type is enabled.
Edit UDA Criteria
Defines the stock UDAs and quantities that must exist on the sales order when Check Stock UDAs is enabled.
Apply Value Range
Use Apply Value Range to apply the same value to all selected rows within the current column.
Clear Selection
Removes the selection from the currently highlighted row or rows.
Information Area
The Information Area at the bottom of the screen displays a description of the currently selected courier banding.
This information is generated automatically and provides a summary of the conditions that determine when the courier will be assigned.

Courier Banding helps automate courier selection, reducing manual intervention and ensuring orders are routed through the most suitable delivery service based on:
- Weight
- Volume
- Order value
- Delivery postcode
- Customer classification
- Brand
- Stock characteristics
- Delivery address criteria
