Brand and MPN code Requirements for eBay

Sellers are required to provide Brands and MPN codes for certain listings. This is intended to improve the way eBay matches items in specific categories to allow buyers to easily identify the listing which they are looking for. The eBay Product listing values can be found in the Channel Type Values for eBay.

When trying to list on eBay and getting error messages relating to MPN, this might be because of the category you are listing in. Some categories require MPN while others require Manufacturer Part Number.

Where are Brand and MPN codes defined?

Brands and MPN codes

Brands and MPN codes are normally defined against a listing in the [ Channel Listings | Listing Details ] screen for brands and MPN codes known to eBay:

1. Open a Web Configuration screen (show me how).
2. Open the [ Channel Listings | Listings ] screen.
3. Double-click on the eBay listing to load the [ Channel Listings | Listing Details ] screen.
4. Press Alt+E or click to enter edit mode.
5. Click on the button above the Value Set grid.
6. Add eBay product to the value set.
7. Double-click on:
   1. EAN Code to set the value in the popup.
   2. MPN Brand and set the value in the popup.
   3. MPN Code to add the code in the popup.
8. Continue configuring your listing.

Exception - If you manufacture your own items or you don't have (or can't find) the MPN Code

The exception to the above rule is where you are the manufacturer of the stock item and therefore it is your own brand or where you can't find the MPN. In this case you will need to:

1. Open a Web Configuration screen (show me how).
2. Open the [ Channel Listings | Listings ] screen.
3. Double-click on the eBay listing to load the [ Channel Listings | Listing Details ] screen.
4. Press Alt+E or click to enter edit mode.
5. Click on the button above the Value Set grid.
6. Add the channel type value of eBay item specifics to the value list.
7. Make sure you are focused on eBay item specifics in the left hand-grid.
8. In the panel on the right of the grid, right-click and select define value list, a dialog will be displayed enabling you to enter your own values.
   1. Click on the button.
   2. Enter Brand in the Name and then the name of your brand in the Value column.
   3. Click on the button.
   4. Enter MPN in the Name and then the MPN code in the Value column.
   5. Click OK.
9. Add eBay product to the value set.
   1. Double click on the EAN code.
   2. Define the EAN value in the popup.
   3. Click OK.
10. Continue configuring your listing.
