How To: Create a Dynamic Pack in a Sales Order
Table Of Contents
Dynamic Packs allow you to build a pack directly within a sales order by adding stock items to a pack header as required. This is useful when the pack contents vary between orders and do not need to be predefined.
Prerequisites
Before creating a dynamic pack, you must have a pack item available to use as the parent item.
- Create a pack item to act as the pack header. For guidance, see How To: Create a Pack.
Steps
- Add the pack header item to the sales order.
- Right-click the pack header line and select Add to Pack (dynamic pack).
- In the stock selection window, choose the stock item(s) you want to add to the pack.
- Enter the required quantity for each item.
- Save the changes. The selected items will be added as child lines beneath the pack header.
Additional Information
Adding Multiple Items
You can add several stock items to a dynamic pack at the same time by using green selection within the Stock Lookup Dialog.
Viewing Pack Contents
- Child items are displayed beneath the pack header within the Sales Order grid.
- Child items are also shown on relevant reports.
- Parent and child lines are linked by a coloured band on the left-hand side of the grid, making pack relationships easy to identify.
Imports and Integrations
Dynamic packs can also be created when importing sales orders via XML:
- From the Other Actions menu within the Sales Order screen.
- Through web services integrations.
Supported Relationships
- Supported: Nested Build relationships.
- Not Supported: Nested Move With, Pack, or Bundle relationships.
Notes
Dynamic packs provide the flexibility to create order-specific pack contents while retaining the same pack structure and reporting behaviour as standard pack items. This makes them ideal where the components of a pack may change from one order to the next.
