How To: Create a Harmonisation Code

Introduction
Harmonisation Codes are used to classify goods for international shipping and customs purposes.
Before you can assign Harmonisation Codes to stock items or stock types, the codes must first be created in Khaos Control. Each code can be linked to a specific country or country zone, helping ensure the correct customs information is applied when shipping goods overseas.
Prerequisites
Before creating Harmonisation Codes, ensure that any required countries or country zones have already been configured within Khaos Control.
Steps
- Open a System Data screen.
- Double-click [ International | Harmonisation Codes ].
- Press Alt + E or click the Edit button to enter edit mode.
- Press F3 or click the Add button to create a new Harmonisation Code.
- Enter the code in the Harmonisation Code column.
- Enter a description in the Description column.
- Click in the Country or Zone column and press F4 to select the appropriate country or country zone.This determines the countries that items assigned to this Harmonisation Code can be shipped to.
- Configure the Default option as required:
- Ticked: The Harmonisation Code becomes the default code and can be used for all countries, even if it has only been linked to a single country or zone.
- Unticked: A specific Harmonisation Code must be configured for each country or zone that goods will be shipped to.
- Repeat these steps to add any additional Harmonisation Codes.
- Press Ctrl + S or click the Save button to save your changes.
Understanding the Default Option
The Default setting can simplify configuration where the same Harmonisation Code applies across multiple countries.
For example, if a Harmonisation Code has been configured for one country or zone and marked as Default, that code can be used as a fallback for all countries that do not have a specific code configured.
If Default is not selected, individual Harmonisation Codes must be configured for every country or zone where goods are shipped.
Important Notes
- Creating Harmonisation Codes is a prerequisite for How To: Map a Harmonisation Code to a Stock Type.

- The country or zone configured against the Harmonisation Code must match the delivery destination. If it does not, courier integrations may not process the shipment correctly.
